Curley39s wife mice and men essay

Curley’s wife is the most misunderstood character in the novel ‘Of Mice And Men’ by John Steinbeck. This is clear when the reader studies the book from her point of view. She is innocent, lonely and defensive in a way that readers see as mean and tart.

In this passage, Steinbeck uses two main techniques to present Curley’s Wife: the symbolism of colour and his description of her. The symbolism of the colour red cannot escape us: she has ‘rouged’ lips and ‘red’ fingernails; her mules are red and they are covered with ‘red’ ostrich feathers.

Like the other people on the ranch, she is very lonely and has dreams of a better life which never come true. The author John Steinbeck introduces Curley’s wife in a symbolic ness way, this is shown when George is talking to Lennie about the dream and when Curley’s wife first meets both the men.

As seen in this essay, in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, Curley’s Wife experiences the most loneliness in the sense that she has suffered emotional abuse from her husband, Curley, and she has furthermore experienced isolation and mistreatment from the other workers on the farm.
